General Maintenance

Under the general direction of the Director of Facilities and Operations the position will provide general maintenance support to campus buildings and facilities.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Ability to perform a variety of work in the maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, and painting tasks; repairs and treats structures such as floors, showers, sinks, walls, roofs, and carpets; performs minor troubleshooting, repairs, reports mechanical malfunctions to appropriate party for action; moves and assists in moving of furniture and equipment; exercises discretion in identifying projects requiring the services of a higher skilled crafts person; and maintains clean, safe, and orderly work areas.

  • Perform general repairs to ­­­­­campus buildings

  • Assist with removal of snow and ice on sidewalks, drives, and parking lots

  • Assist with construction projects as needed

  • Perform sheet rock repairs and wall painting as assigned

  • Assist with the relocation of college records and property 

  • Perform or assist in repairs and maintenance of all campus equipment when assigned

  • Assist in promoting the safety, health and comforts of students and employees 

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Facilities Maintenance & Operations Supervisor

  • Responsible for conformance with the policies as established by the College’s Board of Trustees and the procedures that apply to the position

Required Qualifications

  • Prior carpenter/maintenance experience.

  • Valid Kansas driver’s license.

  • Operate utility vehicles, tractors, tractors, and fork lift.

  • Ability to operate maintenance tools and equipment.

  • Ability to read blueprints.

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior maintenance experience in a commercial setting.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Physical Requirements:   With or without assistance

  • Ability to lift and carry 25-45 lb. loads over 50 yd. multiple times in a 4 hr. period.

  • Ability to work on feet (standing, walking, constant movement) for 4 hr. period.

  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, twist, climb, crawl, and lift objects for a 4 hr. period.

  • Ability to lift 45 lb. objects over head up to 7 ft. high.

  • Ability to operate or learn to operate heavy equipment and machinery.

  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions for 4 hr, periods.

  • Ability to communicate clearly with other employees.
