Job Description:

This is technical and public contact work in reporting the beef cattle market activity for the Kansas Department of Agriculture. An employee in this class provides the agriculture industry and general public with accurate and unbiased market reports depicting the current supply, demand, prices and trends which affect trade in livestock markets.

Work involves attending weekly livestock sales in person and publishing daily records of market activity, utilizing official United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) standards to grade livestock and record sales into online database system. Initial training and supervision are provided by an experienced Agriculture Market Reporter. This position travels to assigned weekly sales each week to report on livestock markets. Day travel and occasional overnight stays will be required. Occasional sale coverage on other days or in other livestock markets may be requested as needed.

Potential Locations:    Dodge City,     Cattle Sale,                  Every Wednesday

                                     Pratt,                Cattle Sale,                  Every Thursday

                                     Colby,             Sheep and Goat Sale, Every Thursday

Location assignments will be determined based on reporter’s home location and qualifications.
